Research Interests

Dr. Jacob (Jack) King is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. The King group aims to develop decentralized technologies to achieve a circular water economy by eliminating contaminants and recovering critical materials from waste streams. The group particularly focuses on electrochemical systems – which do not require chemical inputs, are modular, and can be remotely operated. Active areas of research include evaluating the fate of fluorine during environmental transformations of emerging organofluorine molecules and addressing knowledge gaps regarding electrochemical treatment of per and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), such as the fate of ultra-short-chain PFAS.
